Rules and Regulations

  • The Town of Lewisporte provides residential garbage collection only.
  • Effective March 4, 2013 there will be a limit of 5 bags of garbage per household.
  • Tags for additional bags may be purchased at the town hall at a cost of $2.00 per tag.
  • All garbage MUST be in a garbage bag of a minimum size of 26”x36”/66 cm x 91 cm and must not weigh more than 50 lbs/22.5 kg. (absolutely no shopping bags).
  • All garbage must be brought to curbside by 8:00 am on
    your collection day. (curb is defined as within 5’/1.5 m from the edge of the roadway.
  • There will be an annual spring clean-up (dates and details will be provided).
  • A transparent blue bag must be used for recycling material
  • A clear bag must be used for all other regular household garbage.
  • Two small privacy bags (non-transparent)  for the disposal of sensitive materials are permitted inside each clear bag.
  • The Town of Lewisporte is seeking constructive input from residents for ways to reduce waste and provide a better service to our residents.
  • The Town of Lewisporte strongly encourages residents to utilize the services of Calypso Recycling, Manuel’s Recycling and other forms of recycling and composting.
  • We also encourage residents to cover or contain their garbage in bins or containers.

Saturday 8:00 – 5:00 p.m. (Cardboard & Paper Recycling 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.)
*Closed daily 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.

Beverage Containers (Please remove caps & straws. Rinse container and do not flatten or crush.)
Paper & Cardboard Products (Must be clean & dry.)

Yard Waste

Yard waste clean up - Vernon News - Castanet.net

From May 1 to October 31 yard waste (grass clippings, leaves) will be collected free of charge if placed in regulation size clear garbage bags as per the schedule below:

  • In areas where garbage is collected Tuesday and Wednesday, yard waste will be collected on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month, excluding holidays.
  • In areas where garbage is collected Thursday and Friday, yard waste will be collected on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month, excluding holidays.

Composting

  • Compost facility located on Range Road near the entrance to Woolfrey’s Pond Park
  • Open 24 hours, 7 days per week
  • Items to compost;
    • Leaves and wood chips
    • Grass clippings
    • Fruit & vegetable scraps
    • Flowers and house plants
    • Coffee and tea grounds
  • Items NOT suitable for composting;
    • Household garbage or cardboard
    • Plastic (bags, containers)
    • Lumber, trees / tree branches

Residents are encouraged to use the town compost facility.
